Okay, its officially that time again. The leaves are starting to lose their colour, the windows are closed at night, and the pumpkin spiced lattes are back on the menu at Starbucks. It’s only bloody Autumn isn’t it?
ASOS Paris T-Shirt
So, how do we get ourselves excited about these colder times?? We jazz up our wardrobes with this seasons hottest items and drink cocktails in town silly!!
Now I know fashion works lightyears ahead, and these trends were cooked up by some clever folk behind closed doors whilst I was eating Coco Pops in my dressing gown last year. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t have a slice of the 90’s/Sex & The City-esque action present in the stores right now – and boy are there some goodies to be had.
In this blog post I’ve rounded up 5 of my favourite Autumn/Winter 2018 trends and picked out some irresistible key pieces, which will make you smile when you’re on your way to date night dressed like a total babe.
LOGOS
Coca-Cola Tee
Logo mania is sweeping across the nation. Monogram bags have bounced back into fashion just as fast as they bounced out, so I dug out my 2003 Fendi baguette quicker than you could say ‘comeback’. Aside from the designer monogram gear, Logo T’s and jumpers are also enjoying the rounds, and personally I cant get enough of them. They’re a very quick, affordable way to change up your wardrobe and edge up a look.
They also happen to be a cracking item to take you through these weird hot/cold weather changes with ease. Layer a biker over a Logo T, or add one under a pinafore dress and you’re good to go. I’m favouring reds, whites and blacks to make wardrobe-matching an easy, less stressful affair, but you can go for any colour you please.
Check out ASOS if you can’t be chewed to dart round the shops trying on different styles. I’ve linked some of my other fave logo items below.
ANIMAL PRINT
It is well and truly hunting season out there, and by hunting I mean cornering a foxy faux fur number in your size before anyone else gets their hands on it (not actual hunting, that’s gross). Leopard print has been doing the rounds since last winter and now snakeskin’s been slithering its way into high street stores too. Now, I’m more of a big cat kinda girl than a reptile lover, but whichever way you decide to go, don’t over do it unless you’re comfortable. You will get side-eyes in your bright blue leopard trousers or snakeskin jeans, make sure you can handle the ‘roadkill’ comments with grace. You know, jibes like ‘she must have hit that at a hell of a speed’ kinda thing.
Leopard Print Scarf
If you’re a bit shy, I would say start with cheeky animal print accessories like the beautifully soft SOUTH OF THE RIVER leopard scarf linked above. It’s a more affordable way to incorporate the prints into your OOTD if you’re not sure about taking the full-on plunge (it’s a total barg at £11). These boots were under £20 from NEW LOOK and the shoes were £35 from OFFICE (both linked). I personally like snapping up trend pieces for reasonable prices as I know they are less likely to go the distance.

For snakeskin I’m adoring leather items like the bag and boots linked below.

PERFECT PLEATHER
There are some dreamy leather-look items doing the rounds since leather made an impact on the AW18 shows.
River Island Tan Trousers
Personally, I’m all for leather’s cheaper and friendlier cousin ‘pleather’. You can get some really great substitutes for the real thing nowadays which won’t break the bank (or your vegan friend’s heart).
Take these paper bag waist leather-look RIVER ISLAND Trousers above. So perfect for date night, but also easily worn with a cosy cream sweater and snakeskin boots in the day for the approaching colder months. I love the autumnal colour, and for under £50 they’re a snip!
RED SHORTS: RIVER ISLAND, TAN SHORTS: ZARA, PLEATHER MINIS: BERSHKA
If you’re new to the leather sitch perhaps try a black trouser or skirt first and break yourself in gently. The pleather shorts can be worn with boots and thick tights, (not always black ones) but they are probably for you braver peeps out there.
RIVER ISLAND BLACK PLEATHER SHORTS
BRIGHT YELLOW
Okay, so there’s probably a million shades and all of them have been spied strutting down the runways but I’m referring to Acid or Ceylon Yellows (for all you Pantone buffs out there). Basically BRIGHT eye-watering yellow is what we’re dealing with.
As someone who is not afraid of a splash of colour (or two) this has to be my favourite shade this season (and in previous seasons actually come to think of it, whenever I can get away with it). MANGO has some really nice yellow pieces at the moment which I managed to snap when I was in their flagship UK store a few days ago.
Shocking, cheery and far from dull; this shade will certainly make you stand out like a shining beacon and is guaranteed to perk you up on mornings even before you’ve had your double espresso. It pairs beautifully with purple and electric blue or simply wear with black if you’re a sweet and simple kind of chick – let the yellow do the talking.
If you want to add a splash of the sunshine shade, but don’t want to risk the Big Bird/Honey Monster jokes, perhaps try a scarf. I spied some in PRIMARK the other day (the one pictured is TOPSHOP last year). The above trench is from ZARA a few years back, but I linked a similar version below.
CHEEKY CHECK
Stradivarius Red Tartan Trousers
It seems that Tartan has hit the high street at 100 miles an hour on super steroids this Autumn. Never has the film Clueless come up in conversation quite so much. There’s yellow, electric blue, purple and for the more traditional/genuinely Scottish amongst us there are navy blue and red varieties.
BAG: ASOS, PINAFORE CHECK DRESS: NEW LOOK, SKIRT: ZARA
Admittedly it can all feel a little bit ‘high school’ at times and I’m still getting visions of ‘Rupert the Bear’ when I try on a yellow check trouser. In my opinion, its best kept edgy, with clever colour clashing to keep the look current instead of prim and proper.
If you’re new to Colouring mixing check out my previous blog on How to: Mix and Match Colours here.
TARTAN BAG: ELENA GHISELLINI, RED TROUSERS: NEW LOOK, SKIRT: ZARA
If you must wear a tartan skirt maybe avoid a plain white shirt, thats unless you’re living on Park Ave and your name is Charlotte 🙂
Have a great week,
Hannah

NB The scarf in this blog post was gifted by the lovely people at South of the River Boutique – but I included it in my round up because it’s gorgeous!!
