So, I hate to admit it. But I don’t always pick the chic, glamorous option. Especially when it comes to shoes.
Sometimes I cant be bothered to twist my ankle running for the tube or randomly fall down walking through London’s cobbled streets.
That is why I usually have some backup commuting sneakers in my bag; ready for my journey home after a brunch date, lunchtime drinks or an evening show. Obviously you have to hide down a dark alleyway whilst changing them, to look effortlessly chic as you walk into said location.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still meticulous about matching the trainers to my outfits, even when I know I am going to change into heels as soon as I get to my destination. That’s why I have a dozen pairs in an array of colours, sure to match my look of the day.
In this post I am going to give you some tips on how to save money with these sole saviours. Now it’s probably not for all you gym obsessed lot – I am by no means the authority on performance gym wear. It is worth noting that these cheaper kicks are purely for commuting in my eyes, I tend to invest a lot more in my ‘proper’ gym trainers.
TIP ONE: WAIT FOR A SALE
Okay so as nice as I want to look and as obsessed as I am over my OOTD, I don’t want to spend a fortune on flat shoes. To me they are mostly functional. Even better if they look nice too, but I want to save the real cash for my heels.
This is why I usually wait until they’re on offer. Trainers don’t usually change in style much from season to season. You can totally get away with wearing older versions (and I always am).
TIP TWO: BUY THEM ONLINE
There are usually massive savings to be had online. I’m amazed that I ever paid full price for a pair of trainers.
I usually go to a store, and have a cheeky try on first to make sure the size is right. Then, armed with the product name and colour, order them from the comfort of my sofa whilst sipping some Apothic Red (a delicious red wine blend that everyone has to try).
Another tip is to check for voucher codes before placing your final order. Especially on the bigger websites – for example, Zalando tends to offer good savings.
TIP THREE: CHECK THE JUNIOR SECTION
Now this money saving tip is for all you petite ladies. I fairly recently discovered that a Junior size 5 (38 in European sizing) is the EXACT same as a Ladies size 5. I read up about this, apparently sometimes the ladies sizes are wider (although i’m not convinced) but otherwise they can be identical!!!!!
I therefore would suggest to anyone who is a UK size 6 or below to check if the trainer you are after comes in a Junior size. They are usually considerably cheaper, so you can get two pairs! Ha, just kidding, but definitely worth checking the kids section.
So remember folks, as much as we all wanna be running around in stilettos looking chic AF all the time, I would suggest giving your trotters some relief on your tube journeys, and taking a big old tote to hide your heels in.
Added bonuses include less wear on your favourite heels and not having to ruin them by stepping in those horrible London puddles.
